Food Styling Workshop

I just got back from a food styling workshop at Waterfront conducted by world renowned food stylist, Delores Custer. It was an engaging affair with over a hundred participants from various sectors not only with the food industry but the advertising and graphic design and photography as well. There were also those who simply loves to cook too.

Ooohs and aaahs were heard as she demonstrated tips, tricks and techniques on how to dress up food for editorials and commercials. Little did I know that 80% of the time, the food on camera isn't edible at all. For instance, this succulent looking Roasted Chicken was stuffed with aluminum foil to plump it up, "choreographed" with T-pins (ones thats used to hold wigs), fisherman's twine and super glue, baked for 10 minutes only and brushed with "browning solution" (the secret formula that I know) which has dishwashing liquid, to make it look golden brown. Add a little garnish and voila! its ready for its close up. So next time you see chicken on ads..... make up lang yan!

And if you need a certified food stylist, call me. Hehehe!

P.S. Shown on the other photo are the tools of the trade.
