Recipe: Sangria....without the alcohol

We're recreating the Sangria without alcohol for this holiday season so everyone including the kids can enjoy. Sangria is originally a wine punch popular in Spain and Portugal. It consists mainly of chopped fruits like lemons and oranges, inexpensive red wine, soda water, sugar and a bit of brandy.

I call this recipe, "SOBER QIN" *wink* you will need:

  • A bottle of sparkling red grape juice. Got mine at Hypermart. P145.00
  • 1 lemon. 1/2 of it sliced into thin circles, the other half squeezed into a large pitcher.
  • 1 orange. 1/2 of it sliced into thin wedges, the other half squeezed into a large pitcher.
  • 2 cans of ginger ale or soda water. Also at Hypermart. P18.00- P26.00
  • 2 teaspoons sugar

Slices of peaches and strawberry (canned, frozen or fresh). You may also add apples or pineapple. Make sure to keep it to a minimum to avoid over flavoring of the fruits.

Mix everything in the pitcher. Stir. Let the fruits marinate with the red grape juice for an hour. Add lots of ice before serving.

Use the same recipe for alcoholic Sangria by replacing the red grape juice with red wine (my favorite is merlot) and a shot of Brandy.

Enjoy!!! Advanced Happy Holidays!
